    The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis (also called mono). An EBV infection is characterized by severe fatigue and is usually temporary. However, in some individuals, especially those with compromised immune systems, EBV can trigger chronic illness.
